I know Fall is a little ways off, but I came across this recipe and had to try it.
I am always a little wary when too much sweetness is paired with bourbon. In my travels, juices with high sugar content mixed in are just too heavy on the stomach.
INGREDIENTS:
- 2.0 oz Bourbon
- 1.0 oz Ginger Syrup
- 1.0 oz Unfiltered Apple Juice
- 1.0 oz Lemon Juice
- Dash of Black Pepper
METHOD:
- Combine all ingredients into a shaker, and add ice.
- Shake until well combined.
- Strain into a Rocks Glass.
- Garnish with an apple slice.
*Ginger Syrup: 2 oz. of ginger to 1 cup of sugar to 1 cup of water. Simmer for 15 minutes. Let cool. Strain.
REVIEW:
A very simple cocktail, but does pack some heat. The ginger and bourbon slightly overwhelm the apple, making it unbalanced for my taste. I would have preferred more lemon juice to cut through the sweetness of the apple. I don’t understand the pepper part at all. Overall, it is just an okay cocktail, nothing special, but nothing too bad either.
