LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Left Bank Bourbon and Safai Bourbon deepen Louisville’s bourbon experience at the new Flight Club tasting room opening this Friday, March 28, at the Logan Street Market in central Louisville. An official ribbon-cutting with representatives from the Louisville Independent Business Association (LIBA) will be held at 6 PM. Samples of bourbon and food will be provided during the 5:30-7:30pm festivities.
The tasting room is a joint venture of Left Bank Distilled Spirits co-founder and CEO Ken Hagan and Mike Safai, owner of Logan Street Market and longtime entrepreneur and tastemaker. The two are craft bourbon brands that bottle together under Left Bank at Logan Street Market location.
Left Bank revives the original experience of bourbon whisky through its transformative Mississippi River journey from Kentucky to Louisiana. Hagan himself leads the Flight Club experiences, where “you taste each stage of the process.” The brand’s proprietary stave-finishing creates an enhanced aging during the river trip, and Left Bank offers both Single Barrel and Small Batch expressions.
“I love to bring the history alive,” says Hagan. “It was French-American traders from Shippingport right here in Louisville who shipped spirits down to New Orleans, and the French expatriates wanted more of ‘that Bourbon [dynasty] whisky.’ Today, our bourbon has come a long way to share its adventures with everyone who raises a glass of Left Bank.”
Safai was influenced by his agricultural scientist father to be curious about experimentation and taste. “I got my start in the Louisville beverage scene with Safai Coffee, and I’m proud now to share my 8 to 10-year-old craft bourbon with the city I love,” says Safai. He developed his unique bourbon recipe inspired by a home-brewing expression he crafted using wheated, honey-roasted malt and aged over eight years in premium Kelvin Cooperage barrels.
“The beauty of bourbon is that no two barrels are ever exactly the same,” says Safai. “For me, bourbon is about creativity and patience and a great bourbon experience is about more than just a drink—it’s a conversation, a gathering, a shared experience. With Flight Club, we have a space to share that journey—not just the spirit itself, but the story behind it, opening that experience to others where bourbon lovers can taste, learn, and connect.”
Both brands offer online booking for tasting experiences for up to 10 people at Left Bank tasting experiences and Safai tasting experiences. Larger group experiences can be arranged by contacting the brands directly. Afterward, tasters can enjoy everything on offer at Logan Street Market, Louisville’s community-centered public market with onsite brewery, coffee roastery, shops, and restaurants all under one roof.
Left Bank Bourbon is the history of bourbon in a bottle. This very small batch, craft-aged bourbon is distilled and aged in Kentucky, then floated down the Mississippi River for bottling in New Orleans. The finished product won double gold in the 2023 International Spirits Competition of the American Distilling Institute.
