The legend goes that Sam Maverick rode under cover of darkness to Washington-on-the-Brazos to sign the Texas Declaration of Independence. Still, before leaving, he left a jug of whiskey to be shared among his comrades.
A direct descendant of Samuel Maverick, Dr. Kenneth Maverick and his wife Amy, keep the spirit alive, making whiskey at Maverick Distilling on the original homestead steps away from the Alamo.

Aged for over four years in Maverick’s historic subterranean bank vault. Crafted with triticale, a unique hybrid of wheat and rye developed by a Scottish botanist in 1875, this whiskey delivers a distinctive flavor profile. The grains, sourced from the Texas Panhandle, combine the spice of rye with the sweetness of wheat for a harmonious and complex spirit. Aromas of toasted cereal, spicy caramel, light caraway, and toasted wheat berries invite exploration.
On the palate, this whiskey begins with velvety butterscotch and grain-forward spice. It transitions to notes of orange zest, nutty pecan pralines, and a hint of West Texas piñon smoke, finishing gracefully with buttery cinnamon wheat toast.

Samuel Maverick Straight Rye
Our Straight Rye Whiskey is a true Texas Rye, distilled from Texas-grown Wren’s Abruzzi rye, yellow corn, and malted barley. This rye has a nose of banana pudding, charred oak, clove and caramel. The pallet is silky with notes of biscuit, cardamom, and baking spice. The finish is herbal with cool menthol lingering on the tongue, encouraging another sip.

This whiskey is crafted from a mash of 72% Texas-grown corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley, then aged for a minimum of two years in new charred white oak barrels.

To create this exceptional whiskey, we carefully select and blend the finest barrels of Certified Texas Whiskey, highlighting sweet caramel notes perfectly balanced with a pop of spice.
