Jefferson’s Bourbon’s new release is Jefferson’s Tropics Aged in Humidity Kentucky Straight Bourbon. Aged in Kentucky but finished in the humidity and heat of Singapore. The city is located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, about 85 miles (137 kilometers) north of the Equator. This tropical climate is renowned for its ability to accelerate the maturation process of spirits, and the result is a complex and flavorful whiskey with a unique character.
“When homing in on a location to age our first Jefferson’s Tropics Aged in Humidity release, we knew we needed to be near the equator, where the heat and humidity would be year-round and intense,” Zoeller explains. “Singapore — one of my bucket list travel destinations — was absolutely perfect for this experiment. The result is a remarkable bourbon that further reinforces my belief that terroir for whiskey comes from the environment that the bourbon matures in rather than the ground from which the grains are grown,” he adds. “The Jefferson’s Tropics Aged in Humidity series embodies the result of this with its richness and complexity. We can’t wait for you to experience it firsthand.” explains founder Trey Zoeller.
The distillery sent about 720 barrels on a ship to the tiny Asian country in July 2019. After 18 months of aging in the high humidity, the barrels were on their way back to Kentucky. The spirit reached the Bluegrass state this March.
This release is part of Jefferson’s Bourbon “Ocean Aged” series and is 104 proof retailing for $99 per 750-ml bottle.
