TORONTO (October 22, 2024) – J.P. Wiser’s, one of the oldest and largest producers of Canadian whisky, is changing the landscape of Canadian whisky in the United States. With a legacy spanning over 165 years, the historic brand is proud to introduce U.S. whisky enthusiasts to the “The Decades Series,” a collection that epitomizes the brand’s unwavering commitment to heritage, innovation, and excellence.

First in the series, and at the heart of the collection, is the J.P. Wiser’s 42-Year-Old Whisky, the pinnacle release and the distiller’s oldest age statement. Beginning today, the 42-year-old is available in select retailers across the country and online via Mash and Grape.com, Flaviar.com and Speakeasyco.com. Distilled in 1982, the liquid was put into barrels during a transformative period for Canadian Whisky as the industry was in a depression and founder J.P. Wiser was moving their distillery to Windsor, Ontario. The unique climate along the Detroit River has since imparted distinctive flavor notes, shaping this remarkable whisky over four decades.

Canadian Whisky vs. American Whiskey: A Distinctive Difference

Canadian whisky, long overshadowed by American whiskey, is gaining increasing recognition for its unique characteristics, craftsmanship, and history. Canadian whisky offers a distinct experience that blends tradition with innovation. J.P. Wiser’s, with its centuries-old heritage, exemplifies the nuanced differences in production methods and flavor profiles. Unlike American whiskies, Canadian whiskies, like J.P. Wiser’s, focus on separate fermentation and distillation of each grain in the mashbill—creating greater control over the final release. This technique, combined with the influence of Canada’s diverse climate, results in a smoother, more refined whisky that stands out in its own right, challenging perceptions and reshaping the narrative around Canadian whisky in the U.S. market.

“This extraordinary whisky is a celebration of craftsmanship and the pursuit of perfection. We are thrilled to introduce the J.P. Wiser’s 42-Year-Old as the inaugural release of ‘The Decades Series,'” said Dr. Don Livermore, Master Blender at J.P. Wiser’s. “Every aspect of this creation embodies the artistry and tradition that defines J.P. Wiser’s.”

Bottled at 104 proof and aged for an impressive 42 years, this whisky which drinks like a premium bourbon and can be sipped neat or over ice, has matured in a combination of Speyside Single Malt Casks, Canadian Oak barrels, and ex-bourbon barrels. The whisky’s flavors are said to be shaped by the Canadian local climate, with the heating and cooling cycle causing oxygen to penetrate the barrels giving it a radiant gold nugget colour, opulent aromas of green apple, crème brulé, vintage oak, orange tea, sourdough, and dried fruits and the exquisite taste of dark cherry, English toffee, oakwood, roasted nuts, marble rye, nutmeg and subtle leather leading to a warm cinnamon finish, which culminates into a delicious dessert in a glass.
