I was trying to find a quick recipe that I could make from ingredients I had at home and found a recipe for barbecue chicken sliders. With some adjustments, I had everything I needed to make it work. Since I needed a yummy bourbon recipe, why not add BOURBON to my sliders? With the Super Bowl coming up this weekend, these would be a total hit.

Here is what I did…

In a pot on the stove, pour in:

18-ounce bottle of Sweet Baby Rays Original barbecue sauce. It’s our favorite, and I always have it on hand. Use your fave!

1 tsp. ground mustard

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. pepper

2 cups chicken broth

1 cup bourbon

Bring to a boil, then reduce until it thickens.

Once it was thicker, I added:

1 entire bag of Tyson grilled and ready-pulled chicken breast. I even left it frozen! You could use a rotisserie chicken if you have one. Just remember, it’s all about convenience. Let it cook on low for about 10 minutes. This heats up the chicken and absorbs the sauce.

I melted a little butter on a sheet pan and placed all the bottoms of my slider buns on the pan, then topped it with my chicken mixture. Then the cheese! You have to have cheese. I had shredded sharp cheddar. I may have gotten heavy handed but to me, the more cheese, the better it tastes.

Bake in the oven for 350 degrees until cheese melts.

Remove and place the tops of the buns. I brushed a little melted butter on top and popped them back into the oven to crisp up the top. It took about 5 minutes. If you have sesame or poppy seeds in your cabinet, throw them on before you put them back in the oven.

That was it! These sliders were so easy to make and so good! I was worried about them being too sweet because of the amount of barbecue sauce. However, by adding the bourbon, it rounded out perfectly. You could taste the bourbon, but it wasn’t overpowering. My husband said he wouldn’t be mad if I accidentally made them Sunday. What praise!
