Traverse City Whiskey Co. has the potential to become a go-to bourbon in my household.
The bourbon’s depth of flavors and price makes it an easy buy if you can find it.
As Traverse City continues towards opening its new campus distillery, they continue to climb up the ladder of great bourbons.
For this Ohio-born boy, it is hard to say anything nice about “the state up north,” but I must give credit when credit is due.REVIEW:
Traverse City Whiskey Co. Straight Bourbon is very oak-forward. There were vanilla, toasted bread, and cinnamon aromas, but oak was the dominant smell. For a 3-year-old bourbon, it has mature flavors.
After letting it dance around a little in the glass, the first sip revealed notes of honey, and apricot, with a bit of orange zest and, of course, oak. I continue to mention oak because people may be put off, but do not let that deter you from trying this bourbon.
The heat was manageable for such a young bourbon. Cinnamon, toast, and licorice flavors finished the pour, which lasted a little longer than needed. It was all right, just longer than expected.
A solid bourbon, and with a bit of age, this could be an everyday sipper.
