Widow Jane’s The Vaults 2024 is a celebration of rich tradition and meticulous blending, showcasing the brand’s dedication to crafting premium bourbon.
This 2024 release is a 15-year-old blend of straight bourbons, blended in hyper small batches and carefully selected from its old and rare whiskey collection. The Vaults series is revered for its attention to aging and finishing processes, the 2024 being in Amburana casks; impressive wood staves, full of heady, rich aromatics, which are imported from Brazil.
In the glass, Widow Jane The Vaults 2024 displays a deep amber hue with a rich golden rim, indicative of its lengthy time in the barrel. The legs are slow and viscous, clinging to the sides, hinting at the full-bodied experience to come.
The nose is a harmonious blend of old and new oak. It opens with waves of figs, maple syrup, sweet cookies and rich vanilla, uncommon in bourbons aged this long, but it’s the deeper notes of dried fruits, toasted nuts, and aromatics that give it complexity.
On the palate, The Vaults 2024 offers an explosion of flavors that stay true to its rich nose. You’re immediately met with the warmth of baking spices—cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove—paired beautifully with molasses and a maple syrup sweetness. The wood influence is profound but never overwhelming. This is a bourbon for those who appreciate balance, with flavors of roasted coffee beans, dark cherries, and a smoky earthiness that only adds to the sweet allure.
The finishing in the Amburana cask gives this bourbon a unique twist, imparting a caramelized, crème brûlée sweetness that layers with brown sugar, butterscotch and charred oak profile. As you savor, hints of honey, graham cracker and spice give way to a brown sugar ending.
The finish is very clean, warm and fantastic. The spice lingers, but there’s a deep, almost buttery smoothness that leaves a coating sensation on the palate. Traces of dark chocolate and black pepper persist, alongside a final touch of dried fruit that beckons for another sip.
Widow Jane The Vaults 15-Year 2024 edition, is a masterclass in blending, aging and finishing. Its lengthy maturation combined with the finishing in Amburana casks elevates this bourbon to a premium level. While the price point may reflect its exclusivity at $250 a bottle, the experience it delivers is nothing short of remarkable.
Cheers!
